The 16TB Aegis Padlock DT FIPS 140-2 Level 2-Validated External Desktop Drive from Apricorn is an encrypted desktop hard drive that's designed to meet the FIPS 140-2 Level-2 standard for cryptographic security. Boasting on-the-fly AES 256-bit hardware encryption, the Aegis Padlock DT FIPS desktop drive comes equipped with an integrated, wear-resistance 10-digit keypad for entering PINs, as well as a heat-dissipating aluminum enclosure.
Offering data transfer rates up to 5 Gb/s, the plug-and-play Aegis Padlock DT features a USB 3.0/3.1 Gen 1 interface, brute-force protection, forced administrator and user enrollment, an auto-lock mode, and a lock override mode. Its administrator feature allows enrollment of up to four unique user PINs and one administrator PIN, making it ideal for collaboration. The drive comes with a USB Type-A cable.

Featuring 256-bit AES hardware encryption, the Aegis Padlock seamlessly encrypts all data on the drive on the fly and keeps your data safe even if the hard drive is removed from the enclosure.
USB 3.0/3.1 Gen 1 Interface
The Aegis Desktop DT delivers data rates up to 5 Gb/s via its USB 3.0/3.1 Gen 1 interface. A USB Type-A cable is included. USB 3.1 Gen 1 and USB 3.0 are synonymous.
Aegis Configurator Compatible
Create custom profiles and mass configure multiple Padlock DTs with Apricorn's Aegis Configurator/Powered Hub bundle, which is sold separately.
Admin and User Forced Enrollment
With no default factory pre-set PINs, the admin and (if desired) the initial user must each first establish a unique personal identity number (PIN) to access the drive.
Programmable Minimum PIN length
For added PIN length and enhanced security, minimum PIN length requirement can be increased from 6 characters up to the maximum of 16
One-Time Recovery PINs
In the event that a user PIN is forgotten, up to 4 one-time use recovery PINs can be programmed to permit access to the drive's data.
Administrator Mode
Allows for one administrator to set parameters for PIN management, Read-Only, Auto-Lock, Self-Destruct, Lock-Override, and Brute Force modes.
Auto-Lock Feature
The drive locks automatically whenever it's unplugged from its powered USB port, and is further programmable to lock after a predetermined period of inactivity.
Lock-Override Mode
Designated for specific cases in which the drive needs to remain unlocked, such as during reboot, passing the drive through a virtual machine, or similar situations that would normally prompt the Padlock DT to automatically lock. When enabled, Lock-Override Mode allows the drive to remain unlocked through USB port re-enumeration and will not re-lock unless power is interrupted.
Drive Reset
Allows the drive to be cleared and redeployed. Capable of generating an infinite number of randomly generated encryption keys, the Aegis Padlock DT can be reset as many times as desired.
Brute-Force Protection
After a predetermined number (programmable; up to 20) of incorrect PIN entry attempts, the Padlock DT will conclude that it is under brute-force attack and will respond by performing a crypto-erase, deleting the encryption key and rendering all the key's data useless.
Two Read-Only Modes
Particularly important in forensics, read-only mode is ideal for applications that require data to be preserved in its original, unaltered state and can't be overwritten or modified. The Padlock DT has two read-only modes. One is set by an administrator in Admin Mode and can't be modified or disabled by anyone else. The second read-only mode can be set and disabled by a user but can also be overridden by an administrator.
Wear-Resistant Key Pad
Designed with protection in mind, the entire Aegis Padlock family incorporates wear-resistant, urethane-coated rubberized buttons to hide frequent key usage and avoid tipping off a potential hacker to commonly used keys.
Software-Free and Cross-Platform Compatible
Requires no software to set up or operate. Compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux systems. Supports most computer USB Type-A ports or USB devices.
